Inspired Performances

Being a fan of Spielberg's work I had every confidence that his first movie of 2013 was going to be worthy of me parting with my money. Lincoln was not only well worth sitting for 150 minutes and spending £8 on the ticket but I came away from it feeling like I had learnt something.

The history was accurate and detailed to the finest point but the most compelling feature was Daniel Day Lewis' portrayal of the infamous President who we saw as a father, husband, leader and above all a believer in equality.

"I am the President of the United States of America, clothed in immense power. Go get me those votes."

It was an outstanding performance of the role that carried real emotion but something also has to be said of the inspired performance of Tommy Lee Jones' Thaddeus Stevens. While the ending and outcome was to be expected it didn't take away the gravity and emotion of the film. One definitely worth watching.
